Introducing the MATES Program for Indian university graduates
Australia and India are fortifying their bond through the introduction of the new Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES) set to open for applications in late 2024.
MATES will afford Indian university graduates and young professionals the chance to reside and work in Australia for a maximum of 2 years, facilitating employment opportunities and skill enrichment in their respective fields.
Furthermore, the scheme will enrich Australian industries and enterprises by granting them access to India's finest graduates, equipped with sought-after expertise and know-how.
Program Capacity
With 3,000 places available per program year, MATES kicks off as a pilot initiative, offering ample opportunities for aspiring professionals.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for MATES is open to Indian nationals aged 30 or younger, possessing proficient English language skills, and holding a Bachelor's degree or higher in fields like renewable energy, mining, engineering, Information Communications Technology (ICT), artificial intelligence (AI), financial technology (FinTech) and agricultural technology (AgriTech).
No Employer Sponsorship Requirement
Unlike traditional schemes, MATES does not require Australian employer sponsorship or labour market testing and offers a streamlined application process reducing administrative burdens for both applicants and sponsoring employers.
Permitted Activities and duration of stay
Participants can live and work in Australia for up to two years, promoting skill enhancement and networking, particularly in designated sectors.
Extension Possibilities
Extensions are possible through other visa avenues, but participation in MATES is limited to one time per individual.
Bringing family
Primary applicants can bring eligible family members along as dependent visa holders, ensuring a smooth transition to life Down Under.
Costs and Fees
Further details regarding application charges will be announced soon. An extra fee may be required for the inclusion of additional dependent family members in the MATES application. Applicants will be responsible for any other expenses associated with their application, such as fees for English language test
Commencement Date
While there's no set timeframe for MATES implementation, preparations are underway for a late 2024 launch.
