As of 1 July 2024, the Australian Government has introduced key updates to the Temporary Graduate visa streams under its recent Migration Strategy.
Here's what you need to know:
Stream Name Changes
The Graduate Work stream is now called the Post-Vocational Education Work stream.
The Post-Study Work stream is now called the Post-Higher Education Work stream.
Eligibility Based on Qualification Level
Your qualification determines which visa stream you can apply for:
Post-Vocational Education Work stream:
The Post-Vocational Education Work stream is for those with an associate degree, diploma, or trade qualification. Your qualification must relate to an occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
Post-Higher Education Work stream:
The Post-Higher Education Work stream is for those with degree-level qualifications or higher.
Changes in Age Limits & Stay Periods
The maximum eligible age for both streams has been reduced to 35 years.
If you're a Hong Kong or British National Overseas passport holder, you're still eligible under 50 years.
Stay Periods (Post-Higher Education Work Stream)
The maximum stay period under the Post-Higher Education Work Stream have been updated.
- Bachelor's degree (incl. honours) – up to 2 years
- Masters (coursework/extended) – up to 2 years
- Masters (research) & PhD – up to 3 years
- Special extension for Indian nationals based on AI-ECTA, up to 4 years for PhD holders.
Replacement Stream discontinued
The Replacement Stream has been discontinued, but family members can still join as subsequent entrants.
