New Work and Holiday Visa Ballot Process

Starting 1 October 2024, a new pre-application (ballot) process is in place for the Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa for applicants from China, India, and Vietnam!

The Random Ballot Process is a fair, transparent way to select applicants in high-demand countries.

Eligible Countries are China, India, Vietnam, with an annual ballot held for each. The fee is AUD25 for registration.

Registrations Open on 1st October 2024. First Selections will be held on 14th October 2024.

What are eligibility requirements for this ballot process?

  • You must be aged between 18 and 30
  • You must have a calid passport and national ID card
  • Vietnamese applicants must register using a 12-digit national ID only.

You may be inside or outside Australia to register, but first-time applications must be lodged from outside Australia if selected.

How the Ballot Works

You may tegister only once per ballot for your country. Each year has a specific registration period for each country ballot. After registering, you will receive an email confirmation from the Department of Home Affairs.

Selection is random and not criteria-based. If selected, you’ll get a notification email with instructions to apply.

What if I missed out?

Non-selected applicants will not receive a notification, and the registration fee is non-refundable. You can check your registration status online.

Registration Expiry

Registrations expire if the ballot selection period ends, if you are selected, if you withdraw, or upon turning 31.
