The Australian Regional Occupation List (ROL)

Australia's skilled visa program is based on skilled occupation lists. These include occupations which are deemed in shortage in Australia, and for which overseas candidates with relevant skillsets are welcome.

What is the Australian Regional Occupation List (ROL)

The ROL is a list of occupations that are in high demand in specific regions of Australia. The ROL is used for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa subclass 491, which allows skilled workers to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia for up to five years.

The ROL is designed to meet the needs of regional employers in areas with high demand for skilled workers. The list is reviewed and updated regularly by the Australian government to ensure that it reflects the changing needs of the regional labour market.

How am I eligible?

To be eligible for a Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa, applicants must have an occupation on the ROL, as well as meet other eligibility criteria such as age, English language proficiency, and skills assessment. They must also commit to living and working in a designated regional area of Australia for a minimum of three years.

The ROL is different from the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), which are used for other skilled migration visa programs in Australia.

Which occupations feature on the ROL?

The Regional Occupation List (ROL) contains 77 occupations.
