The Australian Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)

Australia's skilled visa program is based on skilled occupation lists. These include occupations which are deemed in shortage in Australia, and for which overseas candidates with relevant skillsets are welcome.

What is the Australian Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)

The STSOL is a list of occupations that are currently in demand in Australia and eligible for skilled migration under certain visa programs. The STSOL is reviewed by the Australian government regularly and is designed to meet the needs of the Australian labour market.

The STSOL includes occupations that are considered to be in demand for a shorter-term period. It is intended for applicants who are seeking temporary migration to Australia for a specified period of time, typically up to two-years, sometimes up to four years. Examples of visa programs that use the STSOL include the Employer Sponsored Visa Program, Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482), and the Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491).

How do I find out if I am eligible?

Applicants who wish to apply for a visa under the STSOL must meet the relevant skills and qualifications requirements for their occupation, as well as other eligibility criteria such as English language proficiency, age, health, and character. The requirements and eligibility criteria can vary depending on the specific visa program being applied for. Australian Shores provides an eligibility assessment for that purpose.

What occupations are included in this list?

The Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) contains 215 occupations.
